A main-belt asteroid, provisional designation 1188 T-1.
Name
Named after the whinchat, Saxicola rubetra, a small songbird of open meadows (Czech: bramborníček hnědý).
Discovery
Discovered on 25 March 1971 by C. J. van Houten and I. van Houten-Groeneveld on Palomar Schmidt plates taken by T. Gehrels, as part of the Palomar–Leiden Trojan survey. The name was published in WGSBN Bulletin 2, #8, p. 5.
